It’s been 5 years since I first wear kimono in the U.S! Time flies!
On coming of age I wore Furisode, the most formal kimono for unmarried woman. I remember excitement and pride of the day!Even in Japan wearing kimono is only for special occasion; wedding and graduation. When we wear kimono, we feel special. We also show our respect and celebration by wearing it .
Though it’s our folk clothing we must learn how to wear it form kimono teacher or school. You may learn from Youtube now!!!but we need a teacher for better learning.
This day of 5 years ago, I went for a wedding in the U.S. Officially wore semi formal kimono with my family crest on my back. Nobody wore kimono and I was a little shay but I was proud of my tradition. At that time I never thought of being a Japanese Cultural Consultant teaching Ikebana, tea ceremony in kimono!
