Since 2012 I have teached and tried to share in the joy of Ikebana, here in Dallas. I was born and raised in Japan. Fortunately Ikebana; the Japanese art of flower arranging had been alongside of my life since I was born. Ikebana in Tokonoma, decorative alcove in tatami guest room,at the entrance, small flowers in the kitchen. Also Ikebana originated from offering flowers so I saw offering flowers in portable Buddhist shrine. Evergreen for Shinto alter. However, I couldn’t appreciate more than I am living away from Japan.
It’s only when we are away from something that we can appreciate it. Many Japanese women joined my Ikebana classes. They wanted to learn but no time in busy days or no idea where to go or who to ask or how to start. I am very happy to share this traditional culture.
Whenever I have a class, I feel motivated, positive and happy. I have to prepare flowers, thinking of the theme of the class and look for flowers and branches and greenery. It’s also fun to look for and imagine how the combination will be transformed into a unique Ikebana. During the class, first we are very quiet and think, meditating time, then arrange.
After we finish arranges, beauty and smile fill the room. With beautiful creation and smile they go home and share it at their home. I am so blessed. If you would like to join us, don’t hesitate, just contact me!
