Arigatou for your help during the flood disaster of north Kyushu in 1953

Operation Tomodachi in 2011 Tsunami

You have heard Operation Tomodachi which the U.S. sent a helping hand soo after the Great Eastern Earthquake happened. A huge earthquake and Tsumami we had never had before. At that time, I just moved to the U.S. last December, I remember feeling depressed and sad and hopeless to see the news. Many Japanese people living outside of Japan shared the same feeling that we are useless, worthless because we couldn’t do anything but watch.

Not only America but also Taiwan, and many other countries all over the world send help. I cannot forget that. I would like to still thank help and kindness. I had an opportunity to meet and thank military personnel who was in Japan at that time, though I am not from the Tohoku area they did what we could not do.

Looking for veterans who stationed 483rd Air Police Squadron at Ashiyaat Ashiya, Japan from 1953-54, who rescued the Japanese during a flood disaster.

Talking about help, American Military helped Japan 68 years ago. There was a terrible flood in north Kyushu in 1953. Some soldiers volunteered to organize a team to rescue the Japanese in flood without a command from a commanding officer.

People who got helped still thank and remember how they got helped and given food, a dress and red pair of boots which they had never seen before. I happened to meet Peggy who is the daughter of Captain McDowell who jumped out to rescue his team in the water. I was so impressed with his personality. She said that he did what he should do. You will see Two women from this video.

August 4 I organized a zoom meeting where we watched Kamishibai of the flood of Onga River. Kamishibai is like

storytelling with pictures, (human slideshow, I can say) Peggy and her husband joined us. Two women joined the meeting and talked about how they got helped and talked about how much appreciate the help of the soldiers.

We would like to send thanks to the veterans.
