It’s a Japanese proverb saing, “A house full of laughter brings good fortune.”At  the beginning of the year we play  this game and laugh, wishing for a good fortune of the new year.

I introduced Fukuwarai at the event , Mochitsuki; New Year’s Celebration by Japan America Society. Thank you for the volunteers and audience!!! We are sure to have a good fortune!

When was small, we played Fukuwarai and board game called sugoroku both are very traditional. During three days from 1st of January to 3rd, it’s a family time. No stores were open till 4th. And time passes, more and more retail start business earlier and earlier. That made the new year’s celebration has been making less special.

These days those games are beaten by video games and TV and You tubes. However this game is very simple and fun! Adults and children can play together. You can make your  own Fukuwarai. Why don’t you make one and laugh to bring good fortune?

I went and spent the new year. There were more programs of  comedies on TV and theaters than usual and I realized idea was still living.
