Veterans’ Day Ikebana — Honoring Service Through Art
Veterans’ Day Ikebana is an online cultural gathering that honors veterans and their families through the art of Japanese flower arrangement.
More than a language exchange, it is a space where history, gratitude, art, and intergenerational dialogue meet.
Participants from Japan and the United States — including veterans, their families, students, and multiple generations — come together to reflect, create, and connect.
Here, flowers become a medium of remembrance, gratitude, and shared humanity.
Why Ikebana?
Ikebana holds a unique place in postwar history.
After World War II, Ikebana International was founded by the wife of an American general stationed in Japan.
Her vision was simple yet profound: to build friendship through flowers.
In that moment, Ikebana began to carry new meaning —
not only as a traditional Japanese art form,
but as a bridge between former enemies.
For this reason, Ikebana became central to our Veterans’ Day gathering.
Through flowers, we honor shared history.
Through art, we create dialogue beyond words.
Beyond Language
Veterans’ Day Ikebana represents the realization of a long-held vision:
bringing language and culture together through lived experience.
Participants include Cool Kids and Global Classroom members, their families, and veterans — sometimes grandparents, parents, and children creating side by side.
This gathering crosses categories:
• language and non-verbal communication
• art and history
• education and remembrance
