I am preparing for Saturday’s workshop. The most difficult thing is to get flowers and branches good for Rikka and Shoka styles.  Ikabana was born and has developed in Japan though originally offering flowers and customs to enjoy viewing flowers in a room came from China.

As you know Japan is a very small country surrounded by oceans and most of the land is mountains (around 70~75%). People live alongside nature. It’s easier to see the changes of plants and seasons. We have tried to live comfortably by adjusting ourselves to nature not by trying to control nature.  Trying to change ourselves and our thinking seems to much easier to the Japanese people than to change others and outer environment. So in Ikebana we appreciate natural beauty and characters of plants.

For Ikebana we use branches and stems because  in nature flowers has leaves and stems. The shape and lines of leaves and stems perform important roles. t’s so difficult to find these tall branches and stems for traditional style here in Texas because climate and culture are different.  Nature nurture culture.

However people are same. We appreciate beauty. We want peace of mind.I would like to share joy of Ikebana! Feed your mind. Trya Ikebana!
