Our prayer and loveIkebana;the Japanese art of flower arranging stated as offering flowers and it was a flower for prayer. A  priest of Chohoji, Zen temple tried to establish peace and express haromony in a vase. He tried to express hole universe in a single arrnagement. It’s so beautiful and it gathered a crowd in 1462 in Kyoto, Japan. It’s the beginning of Ikenobo Ikebana. Ikenobo is th eoldest and largest school of Ikebana.

Flowers for prayer Flowers for peace and harmony
Flowers for prayer
Flowers for peace and harmony

In 15th century Japan had beenn experiencing civil unrest and people needed peace. The pholosophy of Ikenobo Ikebana is harmony. We also need flowers for peace and harmony around the world. Yesterday I talked about Ikenan history and showed some techiniques to the memebres of Garden club in Dallas. I would like them to look at a flower closely and find its face.  Evryone had a flower in her hand.

One of t he memebres shared this story,  you may have heard of a converstation between 4 year old son and his father in Paris.

They have guns but we have flowers. Flowers protect us. So beautiful and strong message.

In Ikebana every flower/branch is different and unique and all are arranged in haromony to create new beauty in a single vase. All live in limited time and I, an aranger can live in limited time. We are sharing beauty and moment together.

I wish the world could be like a beautiful arrangement. When I face to flowers and  talk about Ikebana, I really think of possibility of flowers and plants to heal and encourage us. Even strength to change people’s mind.
