My one month visit to Japan from the States August 28-September 29, 2020 during a pandemic

Day 1

It was empty when I stepped into DFW airport. Silence.

Then as I walked to the ticket counter, I saw several people. I heard there were only a few people traveling. Ture.

I wore a double mask at the airport and on the plane. There were enough social distance among seats. Unusual!

After the airplane landed at New Tokyo Airport, Narita, we were made into a group of 20. Silence again. Everyone wore masks and people working there wore masks with face shields.

Then we got a number for a name. One by one we had a test, during waiting for the result we had to fill a form so that the public health center can contact even for 14 days after teated out negative. After filling the form, we sat on a chair until the result came out. The announcement was made. “Number 40. 42. 43. 49…” Those who were not called the number may be positive.

It sounded like an announcement of an entrance examination test result, which a business person said to me. Whole we were waiting we ate some snacks and drinks.

I was called but my husband wasn’t and he looked sad. However, just his number was skipped when I asked a nurse. It took us over 4 hours after the arrival. There were not many passengers but it was when several flights arrived at Narita.

We spent 14 days at a hotel. I was afraid we would be locked in the room, however, as long as we were negative, and no fever, we could walk in the hotel. Even when we enter a restaurant in the hotel, they checked our temperature. They served plastic bags for a facemask, a napkin in a plastic bag, silverware in a plastic bag, and plastic gloves were put on a table for a buffet. All waiter and waitress wore masks and served. Tables were set with enough social distancing.

This photo was taken during a morning walk in my home town Kurashiki after self-quarantine and did sightseeing in Himeji.

Driving. It was so peaceful. During 4 day autumnal equinox and weekend holiday, people who had been away from a crowd went out for sightseeing. The Japanese government supported the hotels: GO TO TRAVEL” campaign which discounts 30%!
