In May when I came back to Japan, I received many cranes already and I got one big box and one small box of origami cranes from Japan last week. Origami cranes are love, care, hope, wish and prayer.
From my friends my former students who have already become parents, former colleagues. Last time a high Dozen Senior High School in Shimane, where my nice is working, made 1000 origami cranes. This time another school form Shimane, where I am not from, made over 2000 cranes.
Shimane is a prefecture where Izumo Taisha, one of the biggest shrine in Japan. In October Japanese ancient gods and goddess gather in Izumo Taisha. It is famous for matching a man and woman. We call enmusubi . En means connection or relation. Musubu is to tie or to bond. In Legendary prefecture ,Shimane, that used to be called Izumo, I could have a bond to this elementary school through a friend of mine. She talked about origami crane for Sandy Hook to vice principle of Yokan Elementary School. From one person to one person, from that person to another people, more and more people joined this origami project, wishing to be with Them.
Every single crane has its own story; condolences, prayer, wish, love, hope and more. Now I have 6 big boxes and one small box full of origami cranes at home. I see them and I feel very responsible to hand these to the families. I wish these cranes could give the families left strength and hope . We Are With You.
