I enjoy working at floral department at local store twice a week as a floral designer. Flower design is very different from Ikebana. Floral design is to please recipients and Ikebana is for the guest but more beneft for the arranger’s mind. Both are enojoyable.
We had made a lot of rose arrangements since Monday for Valentine’s Day. On 14th more than 99.9 % of the customers I helped were gentlemen. It was nice to see and help someone who was choosing single rose/arrangements, thinking of their ladies. Some people prefered arranging flowers by themselves. Others ordered us beforehand and buy ready made arrangements. Everybody had his own way to express love. Balloons and stuffed animal also sold well. I could share their affection to the recipients. A happy day!
In Japan ladies give chocolate to men. I used to spend much time to choose chocolates for my hhusband, family, friends, boss and colleagues. I have to choose different chocolates but it was a lot of fun. I had made hand made chocolate but it couldn’t beat commercial one in looks and tastes but maybe it could express my love more. My husband doesn’t eat chocolate very much so I bought a very small chocolate I wanted to taste and beer for him.We celebrate Valentine’s Day in Japanese way when we were in Japan. In March 14th they have White Day when gentlemen must give ladies something in return candies, cookies, handkerchief, underwear, jewellies etc. If he forgot to do, it would be a problem! Japan is gift and returning society.
Now we are in America, we do in American way. I got a bouquet from my husband. I love flowers. I had a very busy Valentine’s Day, though it’s a lot of fun, filled with smiles and love. Happy Valentine’s Day!
